Scattered Thought # 4 - Perspective
SCATTERED THOUGHTS #4 Perspective
Was recently standing outside an exercise class waiting to get in (yes, I really was waiting to get in) and I overheard two women speaking about a fellow classmate. The gist of their discussion was how Lady III (lager then a Lady 1 and Lady II) had "let herself go". Well, I instantly started to laugh to myself and got the biggest kick out of what I was thinking (I laugh at my own bubble speak). You see, there is this great song by George Straight called "She Let Herself Go" about a man who left his wife and how she "let herself go" due to his departure. Well when he said goodbye she certainly did let herself go and had a grand old time doing it! Without him in her life she went on a single cruise, Hawaii, a spa, the beach with friends and got knock down pretty.
This song has always reminded me that "letting ourselves go" does not always have to be a negative. I looked at the woman these two anorexic Annie's (as my mom might say) were talking about and I thought that Lady III looked absolutely fabulous. She looked like a healthy, in shape, strong and strikingly gorgeous woman to me. But what do I know?
I myself had not been to the exercise class in awhile due to my schedule being all over the map. So after class I thought I'd catch up with Lady III and say hello. When I asked her what she had been up to she smiled and said , "Having way too much fun, that's it!". Not such a bad answer.
Maybe we should all be like Lady III and "let ourselves go" and have more fun! There are a lot of options out there for finding it - we just have to let ourselves go :)

Scattered thoughts #3
SCATTERED THOUGHTS # 3 GOOD PEOPLE
Some of us are lucky enough to come across GOOD PEOPLE. From my earliest memories I have been blessed with an assorted cast of characters who have come in all shapes and sizes. Yesterday, I received an e-mail from a dear friend that I have known since childhood who wanted to let me know that her Aunt Jackie had passed. After reading those words I stopped and let the memories flow. When I first met Aunt Jackie I was around nine or ten and she was probably in her early thirties. She was so beautiful, hysterically funny and full of life. I wanted to be her! I was just a neighborhood kid who lived down the street BUT whenever she was visiting at their house I wanted to be there and be part of their family/life. She was married to my friend's Uncle and they had an adorable an child who we called "Critterford" (his name was really Christopher). She had a knack of making everyone feel special. Aunt Jackie and her family moved to Florida while I was still a tween and I never saw them again. They fell upon difficult times and I'd hear bits and pieces about their life over the years and every time I'd inquire I always wanted to write to let her know I was keeping her in my thoughts and to thank her for making such fun memories for me and for always being so nice. Well, life got in the way, and that letter was never sent.
Aunt Jackie, you are part of the fabric of my being. From you I have taken many things and I bet you did not even know they were missing! I am positive that you are soaring and I hope you know that your presence in my life was huge. Although many of us are not in our early thirties we still have the ability to have a life-altering effect upon all those we come across. Being a good person never gets old and people do remember.
There is a song (I guess music is also a part of my fabric) by Gosh Groban, called THANKFUL. For all the people who we have forgotten to thank in our lives let's send it to them and their family's! Critterford and Deb this is for you! Maybe closed ears will be opened tonight:) We CAN all be GOOD PEOPLE!

Scattered Thoughts #2
SCATTERED THOUGHTS #2
There are no accidents
Did you know that if you do not know the name of a song you can type in a few words at Google.com and possibly find it? Well, after searching for the "who", who sang "God's Promise" Sunday AM on WFUV 90.7 FM, I came to find that Ellis Paul (aka Paul Plissey) was a Boston College scholarship athlete (like my dad), who unfortunately got hurt (question ? - if he did not who knows if he would have gotten into music?) and was sidelined in his junior year. It was in these sidelined moments where he began picking up his guitar and started playing music and writing songs. His interest continued to grow and to make a long story end he has become one of the most well known folk singers of this era.
OK, so what is the connection? Well I goggle his web page to find that he will be playing at Watercolors Cafe in Larchmont, NY on Sunday January 22nd at 7 PM. Now, prior to this past weekend I had no clue who this man was and now he will be playing 10 minutes from my home at a locale that is a fun place to go to boot!
Things as inconsequential as a song can have the ability to change the direction of ones day (and possibly more - it inspired me to start this blog and share my scattered thoughts). Take no sign for granted, if it is guiding you to unearth more go for it! Take notes and share. You never know who is paying attention!
There are no accidents in life and as the days pass I find the synchronicity of events that have transpired along my journey amazing! Keep smiling and today maybe you will take a listen to a station you might not ever play. Who knows what you may discover today!
Paul Ellis's link is the following should you wish to see him sing live :)

Welcome to my Blog!
I believe we are all here for a purpose. Now "WHAT" that purpose is God only knows. That being said, through this blog I will attempt to try and make sense of the scattered thoughts that bounce around my head and the lessons I take away from my daily travels. Some days the thoughts will make sense and be crystal clear but on most they will be all over the map. Some days the idea may seem trivial and it may not matter to you BUT maybe in these inconsequential thoughts and comments you will find meaning, Whatever you take away from my scattered thoughts I hope they move you to a better place!
SCATTERED THOUGHTS #1
Yesterday AM I was in my car driving to get gas. I was all by myself, a rarity on the weekends being that I have a few kids, two dogs and constant chaos 24/7. I put the radio on and searched for anything other then Radio Disney. All I wanted this AM was peace. I came across WFUV 90.7 FM and they were having their "Sunday Breakfast" program. Cindy Bullen's, of the Refugees whom I love, was just finishing a new song called "January Skies" and I was settling into my ride alone. My mind began aimlessly wandering back to the sudden passing of my brother Brendan in November and how difficult it has been on my entire family. I was not paying much attention to the background noise on the radio until I heard the word STRENTGH blare from the radio. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I was immediately brought back to the present moment. You see my older brother Brendan passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55 (11/25/11) and the lyrics that caught my ear was mind blowing. The words I heard were the following: "All that I promise is strength for this day...".
Wow!!! All I have been asking God for each and every day since my daughter passed away in 2004 has been the strength to get through my days and here was a song being sung to me and for me when I so needed a gentle and loving reminder. "God's promise" was the scattered thought that I needed yesterday. So many of us just need the strength to get through one day, moment or minute. Thank you WFUV, Woodie Guthrie (words by) Paul Plissey (music by) and Ellis Paul (sung by). Signs are always around us and yesterday I was listening for my answer!
If you'd like to hear the words and the song that was sung so movingly by Ellis Paul click on the below link. Remember that signs abound for all who are willing to open their hearts, and in my case yesterday ears, to.
